As Gorb indicates, Yiddish Dances is “very much a party piece. It brings together two of my abiding musical passions: the Symphonic Wind Orchestra and klezmer—the folk music of the Yiddish-speaking people.”

In a recent conversation, Gorb indicated that the work was an opportunity for him to explore his Russian Yiddish heritage since the five-movement work is based on klezmer dances.
