The Renaissance Fair, indicates the composer in his preface, is suitable for high school and advanced junior high bands.
It is comprised of three movements. Entry of the Court (Courante CLXXXIII) from Michael Praetorius’ Terpsichore begins the work, followed by two movements from Tielman Susato’s Het derde musyck boexken (called Danserye) of 1551.
The second movement, “Shepherdesses’s Dance,” is based on a basse danse “Bergerette sans roch,” and the third movement, “The Magicians,” is from the final folio of Danserye, Galliard (XV) “Le tout.”
The work is approximately four minutes long.
