A unique feature of this setting of the 23rd Psalm is its 21-measure refrain, giving the assembly a much more substantial role in singing the piece than is usually provided in such settings.
The verses—by contrast just 16 measures—are sung by the choir in a variety of voice combinations.
It is effective as a choir anthem or a communion processional when the additional length is welcome.
