Description:

The text set here is from Sedulius’s influential 23-stanza alphabetic hymn, A solis ortus cardine, which is about the life of Christ from the Incarnation to the Ascension; each strophe begins with the next letter of the alphabet (the first verse starts with A, the second with B, and so on). Hal Hopson chose three verses—9, 11, and 13, plus the added doxology that John Mason Neale translated—from the section describing the three manifestations of Christ’s Epiphany.
