This four-movement work provides a study in colors and textures, brilliant sonorities, and an extended range.

The work opens with a series of quasi-like fanfares as well as ascending and descending cascading lines. The second movement is dark, with mellow sonorities overlapped by shrill woodwind pyramids. The third movement employs non-traditional wind techniques, including improvisatory sections in all instruments as well as repetitive rhythms. The fourth movement is the most incisive and rhythmically varied of the four movements.

The entire work is approximately twelve minutes in length.
