Written in 2004, Rhythm Stand is a short piece of approximately two minutes and thirty seconds, published by the American Composers Forum and distributed by Hal Leonard (listed as one of its BandQuest compositions for young band).

In Jennifer Higdon’s own words, Rhythm Stand “pays tribute to the constant presence of rhythm in our lives, from the pulse of a heart beating to the rhythmic sounds of the world around us.”

The composer further explains that the Rhythm Stand is so named because “composing is merely the job of combining interesting sounds into interesting patterns.

And the interesting patterns create cool rhythms. So...I’m making a STAND FOR RHYTHM!”
