This overture is based on “De Boatmen’s Dance,” a minstrel tune from the nineteenth century composed by Daniel Decatur Emmett.
It is a single- movement work with three distinct sections. Standard band scoring is utilized with only three horn parts.
Percussion includes tambourine and triangle in addition to standard instruments.
Published in 1979 by the Bourne Company, this piece is approximately three minutes and forty seconds in duration.
