Old Churches was commissioned by The American Composers Forum as part of their BandQuest series, which states as its mission to take “young bands out of the rehearsal room and immerse them in the works of world-class composers.”

As the title suggests, Old Churches is a musical tour of ancient places of worship. In the words of the composer, “The piece is based on Gregorian chant and replicates the feeling and sound of monks singing and praying in ancient churches.”
