The song Bist du bei mir (If Thou Be Near) is adapted from the second of two notebooks that were compiled in 1725 by Bach for his young wife, Anna Magdelana. One of Bach’s most tender and best-loved songs, it may have been transcribed and set by Bach as a solo aria appropriate for his wife’s voice.

Only fifty- five measures in length, the work lasts approximately three minutes.
