Description:

Occasionally we come across a piece that looks on the page to be considerably more difficult than it is. This happens when the voice leading is so fine as to make easy that which looks difficult. The difficult appearance comes from interesting writing—and let’s not forget the two flutes with their totally independent parts. John 7:37–38 is a powerful text, and this is a worthy and significantly appealing setting.

The accompaniment and optional part for two flutes have a flowing quality that supports the text from John 7, "If anyone thirsts, let them come to me." Simple ABA form makes this an easy piece to learn, while the harmonic language makes it satisfying to sing.
