A flurry is defined as “a sudden blast or gust of wind.” The composer intended to capture this with the fast- paced nature of the work.

The form of this 68-measure work is ABA, with the tempo marked Allegro e marcato.

The B section is a brief four-part canon based on the original A theme.

The brass section is placed in opposition to the woodwinds and horns throughout much of the piece, with the percussion section reinforcing both choirs.
