Fa Una Canzona is an arrangement taken from a collection of four-voice canzonettas published by Vecchi in 1585.

Its original title, “Fa una Canzona senza note nere,” means make a song without black notes. The “black notes” are a reference to dissonance, which was perceived at that time as an obstacle to musical expression.

Fa Una Canzona is an excellent example of the Renaissance practice of chordal movement in music.
