The original version of Circuits was an orchestral work completed in 1990. It is orchestrated so that it can be played by either a small chamber orchestra or a full orchestra. The expanded instrumentation calls for an additional player for the doubled woodwinds and trumpets, two additional horns to the original pair, and two additional trombones from the chamber version’s single player. A tuba is also added. The percussion remain at three in both versions.
