Bugs is an engaging work in six movements that takes the performers and listeners through numerous musical styles that allude to pictorial representations of various insects.

Cichy writes:The concept for Bugs had been in the back of my mind for a number of years and this commission seemed right for this piece. Several years back when I came up with the idea for the piece, I visited the Field Museum in Chicago and “researched” the bugs. I came back with a long list of possibilities for the movements. I had not intended on writing an introduction, which I humorously titled “Prelude,” but it just popped out when I started working on the piece. The other bug movements were chosen based on a variety of musical styles that would ultimately make up the piece. The final movement was completed and delivered to St. Thomas less than a month before the premiere.
