Siler, John

Dr. John Siler, a native of Belmont, North Carolina, began piano lessons at the age of seven, and has been associated with church music since the age of fourteen, primarily as a church organist/director. He is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music, having studied composition with Scott Huston.

After service in a US Army Band, he obtained a Master of Music Education and a Doctorate in music from the University of South Carolina, studying composition with Gordon Goodwin. He has recently turned his musical focus largely towards sacred music composition. Besides, GIA, he has anthems in the Neil Kjos catalogue.

Dr. Siler’s wife, Jan, is also a musician. They have two children: Allison, an attorney; and Nathan, a doctoral student in Trombone at Cincinnati.
