Herryman Rodriguez, Ivette

IIvette Herryman Rodríguez was born on the Island of Youth, Cuba in 1982. She began studying piano at the age of eight. Herryman earned her Bachelor’s degree in Music Composition from the Higher Institute of Arts (ISA) in Havana, in 2006, and her Master’s in Music Composition at Baylor University, in Texas, graduating with distinctions in  2013. She is currently studying her Doctorate in Music Composition and a second Master’s in Music Theory at Michigan State University (MSU).

Herryman has written music for solo instruments, chamber groups, large ensembles, electronic media, children, church music, film music, and musical theater. Her compositions have been performed in Cuba, Mexico, El Salvador, and the United States. Her zarzuela Cerca del Río, a musical play for children and adolescents, which can be heard on the record label Colibri Productions, won a Cubadisco Award in 2010. She has been composer in residence in Mexico and El Salvador.

Herryman is a member of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), the Cuban Association of Authors’ Rights (ACDAM), and the American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers (ASCAP).
