Owen, Harold

Harold Owen is Professor Emeritus of Composition at the University of Oregon. He is the author of several books including Modal and Tonal Counterpoint (Schirmer Books), Music Theory Resource Book (Oxford University Press), and Handbook for Creative Church Musicians (GIA). Among his compositions are works for orchestra, wind ensemble, chamber ensembles, chorus, and solo instruments. His sacred compositions include anthems, organ works, and liturgical settings. His many awards include Alchin, ASCAP, and BMI Awards, and a Ford Foundation Grant; commissions include a String Quartet for the Coleman Chamber Concerts, a Tuba Concerto for Norman Pearson of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, an Oboe Concerto for Amy Goeser Kolb with the Octava Chamber Orchestra of Seattle.
