Sexton, Bernard

Bernard Sexton is an Irish composer who has been working in the area of sacred music for the past twenty five years. He is a Music graduate of University College and the DIT Conservatory of Music where he studied composition with Dr. Joseph Groocock. Many of his compositions have been recorded and his work has been published in Ireland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. His music is frequently performed on RTE National Radio and Television and at the Irish Church Music Association Summer School where he has also acted as tutor. He has been a prize-winner at two major sacred music competitions and he was commissioned by the Irish Episcopal Commission to write music for the Order of Christian Funerals. Bernard’s music combines appealing melodies with an innate musicianship which have accounted for his popularity with choirs and congregations in Ireland and the United States. He is Head of Music at Coolmine Community School, Dublin and directs a chamber choir, Anima, which specializes in a capella sacred music.
