Boscaino Tamburro, Barbara
Dr. Barbara Boscaino Tamburro has spent the past three decades teaching strings, conducting orchestras, and coaching chamber ensembles on both the elementary and secondary level. With a string program that grew from forty to five hundred students districtwide, Dr. Tamburro has been recognized as a master teacher and twice received the “Woman’s Achievement in Education Award” from Douglass College. She was named “Woman of the Year” by the East Hanover, NJ Italian-American Association and most recently, Dr. Tamburro was awarded a full fellowship to attend The Oxbridge Teaching Seminar at the University of Cambridge, England.
As a clinician, Dr. Tamburro has lectured at numerous MENC and ASTA sponsored workshops and has led training sessions in string pedagogy for school districts, colleges, student teachers, and music administrators. She is the author of “The Corda Collection,” a string methods book and curriculum which has been adapted by numerous school districts around the country. Dr. Tamburro is the co-founder of the NJ/ASTA Annual String Symposium and the Assisi Music Festival in Italy.
For many years, Dr. Tamburro was a member of the NJ Pops Orchestra and was concert mistress of the New Jersey Contemporary Orchestra under the direction of jazz composer, Duke Anderson. Her summers were spent on tour in Europe with the Santa Monica Philharmonic, American Festival Orchestra, Connecticut Chamber Orchestra, International Festival Orchestra in Milan, and an exclusive tour with the legendary opera tenor, Giuseppe Campora. She also performed as an orchestral musician and soloist with festival orchestras in Urbino and Siena Italy. In 2009, Barbara was awarded a Summer Writing Fellowship by the American Association of University Women to complete her latest book which is an annotated bibliography of string orchestra literature.
