Timothy S. Brophy is Associate Professor of Music Education at the University of Florida. A highly-awarded classroom teacher, he received an Ashland Teacher Achievement Award (1996), a Memphis Rotary Club Rotary Award for Teacher Excellence (1999), and was the first elementary music teacher to be honored at the Disney American Teacher Awards in Los Angeles in 1998.

An active music education writer and clinician, Dr. Brophy has published over 40 articles, which have appeared in numerous journals, such as the Journal of Research in Music Education, Music Education Research, the Music Educators Journal, and the Journal of Music Teacher Education. He is sole author of three books and co-author of over 30 books and modules as part of the music textbook series Music Expressions (Warner Bros./Alfred Publications, 2003–6). Dr. Brophy has conducted music education workshops and conference presentations throughout the United States and in Canada, England, Spain, China, Australia, New Zealand, Holland, Sweden, Norway, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Taiwan.

His research has focused on the development of children’s melodic improvisations and music assessment. He has been a member of the editorial boards of The Music Educators Journal, the Orff Echo, and currently is a member of the Editorial Committee for Teaching Music Magazine. He is the past editor of Research Perspectives in Music Education and co-editor of The International Journal of Music Education: Practice. He is a past Research Chair for the Florida Music Educators Association (FMEA) and chair of the Florida Music Assessment Task Force.
