Alison Adam
View Calendar for "Alison Adam"Alison Adam is a member of the Iona Community (based in Scotland) and her work is very much an expression of the Community's commitment to the renewal of worship. She works to enable churches and organisations to develop a more participative and engaging style of worship, which is relevant to today's world and yet still maintaining a strong liturgical style.
Alison worked with John Bell and the Wild Goose Resource Group for 7 years and since moving to London in 2002 is now working freelance under the title 'WORSHIP WORKS'. She was a member of the Wild Goose Worship Group from its inception in 1984, has featured in all their recordings and continues to work in association with Wild Goose from time to time. Formerly a elementary school teacher and youth worker, Alison has worked with all ages in her career and continues to use these skills in her work.
Alison is a regular visitor to North America and has facilitated retreats, youth & young adult workshops, "Big Sings", worship workshops and presented at conferences in Canada and USA, including NPM, and the Calvin Symposium on Worship and the Arts. She has been used as a workshop leader by the Swedish Lutheran Church and has had a short-term placement at the Asian Institute of Music & Liturgy in the Philippines.
Alison has a particular passion for getting folks singing using simply her hands and voice and the engaging "Wild Goose" style which has a crowd singing something African in four parts before they realise they're doing it! Global music plays a significant part in Alison's work as she believes it connects us to the Body and to the body, as well as liberating us from the page when we sing!
Alison also believes strongly in the need for "worship which is more participative - worship which will engage the heart and body as well as the head. When these things happen we begin to include many who are otherwise excluded in our worship, without alienating regular worshippers."
She is able to provide the following:
- enabling assembly participation in song (or "congregational song")
- enabling assembly participation in worship (or "participation in worship")
- singing the psalms
- world music
- music for the liturgical seasons
