Webb, LaToya

Dr. LaToya A. Webb is Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Wind Orchestra at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. Before joining the Laurier faculty of music, she served as assistant professor of practice in conducting and assistant director of bands at the University of Texas at Austin, and as instructor of wind conducting at Auburn and Grambling State University.

A native of Richmond, Virginia, Dr. Webb served as a music director and events coordinator for the District of Columbia Public Charter Schools and as a director of bands for Richmond Public Schools. Dr. Webb holds degrees from Norfolk State University (interdisciplinary studies and music education), George Mason University (instrumental conducting), and Auburn University (PhD in instrumental music education). A versatile educator and conductor, her research interests include conducting pedagogy, women in music, bias in music education, and diversity, equity, inclusion, and access in music education. Dr. Webb serves as the Tau Beta Sigma national vice president for professional relations, building relationships within the college band teaching profession.

As a passionate advocate for improving educational opportunities through diversity, equity, and inclusion, Dr. Webb is cofounder of I See You: Affirming Representation in Music, an organization aimed to affirm Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) in all fields of music. This organization provides a safe space for mentorship and networking. It is also a resource for people who identify differently to learn about BIPOC experiences to navigate and champion a more equitable environment for all.

Dr. Webb is an internationally sought-after educator maintaining a thriving schedule as a guest conductor, clinician, lecturer, researcher, and adjudicator.
