Puer Natus in Bethlehem
by
Pietro Adolpho Bassi
Editor : Richard Proulx
This 19th-century Italian carol with Latin text has all the traditional characteristics of the 6/8 pastorale. Melodic thirds and sixths between SA and then TB lead to a more developed SATB section; the finale ends as the piece began. The edition also includes two versions of the original chant, including a rhythmic setting with English text.
