The psalm, with
refrain based on the opening
line of veni emmanuel, is matched
with newly composed verses: I
and 3 for cantor, 2 for SATB.
A
second version of the refrain has
the men carry the tune, while SA
voices sing a 2-part descant. The
Alleluia uses the same melodic
material, but here it is in rapid
accented eighth notes, strikingly
different from the psalm refrain.
Choral verses are given for all the
Sundays of Advent.
