Warm the Time of Winter
Text Author : Ruth Duck
Invitation and absolution of penitential rite: 1973, International Commitee on English in the Liturgy, Inc. (ICEL); hymn text: 1992, GIA Publications, Inc.; 2000, GIA Publications, Inc.
Though identified as an “Advent”
gathering rite, this text uses the
winter cold and accompanying
darkness as a metaphor for the
times when we experience fear
and despair, and calls upon the
Holy Light to “warm our time of
winter.”
While the accompanying
penitential rite has a distinct
Advent character, the hymn
would be appropriate during the
long cold, dark days of winter.
