There are several unique aspects to this piece. First, it is in a gently rhythmic 5/4, creating a captivating lilt. Second, the unison melody of this hymn is followed by a vocalized 8-measure choral “verse” without words, beautifully and expressively scored. Finally, the coda is an SATB setting of the hymn with an optional second text, the Nunc dimittis.
