The congregation at the beginning of the liturgy sings the entrance antiphon or introit as the priest enters. Since the revision of the Roman Missal in 1970, this act of "gathering" is meant to accomplish four things, "...open the celebration, foster the unity of those who have been gathered, introduce their thoughts to the mystery of the liturgical time or festivity, and accompany the procession of the Priest and ministers." (GIRM #47)
GIA offers an array of worthy introit resources including three new collections by Paul Tate and Ken Macek.
