Jump Right In Recorder
This innovative, remarkable series combines the latest research
in music learning with the belief that a musical instrument is
an extension of the human mind and body. The result: an engaging
method that has students playing musically, right from the start.
The reality is that many of today's beginning students never
learned to carry a tune or keep a steady beat. So Jump Right In
builds these skills concurrently with traditional "executive skills"
such as embochure, posture, hand position, and articulation. Even
the first notes students play involve musical expression. And
because students learn to bring true musical meaning to their
playing, common problems such as "tuning" the ensemble become
far easier to solve.
Central to this series are student take-home CDs full of songs
and other musical activitities that virtually extend the classroom
into the home. Make no mistake-these Cds are not boring synthesized
background tapes. Each instrument has its own CD, exposing many
students for the first time to the richness of their respective
instruments (compliments of top-notch performers, including members
of the artist faculty at the Eastman School of Music) and giving
beginning players the models they need.
Jump Right In advocates "sound before sight" for one simple reason:
players become more musical if they know what sounds to expect
before they play them. After all, how expressive and accurate
would you be reading a passage of text in a language you didn't
understand? Jump Right In encourages beginning musicians to learn
many tunes by ear right from the start, and not just those tunes
that are a part of the series. This practice builds a student's
musical vocabulary and serves as the perfect readiness for all
musicianship. Music reading typically begins no sooner than three
months into the series-and when reading begins, it is with true
meaning. (Don't worry, there will be plenty of music to play at
that first concert in December.)
An exhaustive teacher's guide provides many sample lesson plans
and other support materials-there's even a video of many of the
teaching procedures. Additional materials, such as the Solo and
Accompaniment Cassette Sets (which contain 300 rote songs in solo,
each followed by rich and varied instrumental accompaniments)
will keep students challenged for many years. And the authors
are continually developing and researching new materials.
Jump Right In is truly unlike any other series on the market.
Solo Book 1A with CD and Solo Book 1B with CD
Each volume in this practical, musical, and economical series
includes 50 folk songs and a CD. The CD contains an instrumental
solo track plus an engaging acoustic accompaniment for every tune.
The Jump Right In Solo Books also feature enrichment activities
to help young players move beyond the printed page, including
a convenient way to track ear-training activities for each song.
These books even include chord symbols for each tune as preparation
Grouped by level of difficulty and by key, these books are sure
to engage any student hungry for more music or simply looking
to have fun with their instrument.
