A Community Mass
Since its publication in 1971 and revision in 1977, A Community Mass has become a staple for many parishes. Due to its wide use and inclusion in various denominational hymnals, Proulx has periodically created additional material and new instrumentations, often at the request of colleagues. In order to incorporate these additions, A Community Mass has been newly edited and engraved. Some of the new features include an optional festive organ accompaniment and SATB harmonizations for the Santcus, a second setting of the Lamb of God, and all four versions of the memorial acclamation have been set. The full score with all instrumental parts is now available as well.
These enrichments have made A Community Mass adap to a variety of circumstances and forces—from cantor, assembly, and organ to performances by choir and assembly with small or large instrumental ensembles in addition to organ. Thus an “ordinary” setting is transformed into a “festive” setting in the appropriate liturgical context.
