Patterned after the traditional form of evening prayer, this lyrical setting of vespers has inclusive language and simple but sturdy melodies. Performing forces include assembly, piano, one handbell (A4), and flute (optional). Contents include: "Procession of Light," "Evening Hymn" (based on the "Phos hilaron"), "Evening Thanksgiving," "Psalm 141," "Gospel Canticle" (Magnificat), "Litany," "Offering Response," and "Blessing."
