A New Lightweight, Large Print, Interdenominational Hymnal for Retirement Communities
Our Growing Years Hymnal
Ministers and pastoral caregivers of all Christian denominations simply must consider this new hymnal for retirement communities, Our Growing Years. This first-ever hymnal serves the unique needs of retirement communities where Christians from various traditions worship and pray together in an ecumenical setting, many on a daily basis.
This long-awaited new hymnal includes the best-loved hymns of all time in a lightweight, large, clear print formula. An ecumenical worship service, morning and evening prayer, and a fine selection of prayers complete this hymnal for some of our various churches' most devout members and best singers-the senior citizens.
Designed by residents of Westminster-Canterbury, a Richmond, Virginia, retirement center, under the guidance of Dr. James Sydnor, the contents of this easy-to-use, easy-to-hold hymnal are ecumenical in scope. Almost half of the 330 hymns are drawn from the list of hymns selected by the Consultation on Ecumenical Hymnody.
The first verse of each hymn is interlined with music and the remaining verses are printed in poetic verse, making it a prayer book as well as a hymnal. Both the hymns and prayer services represent various cultures throughout the ages of Christian faith and were chosen for their relevance in today's prayer life.
Our Growing Years is sure to delight the user with instant identification of favorite old hymns and spark a spirit of inspiration with a selection of new songs added to address contemporary issues, songs that have become "classics" in our own time. Whether it is used as a community worship book or for personal devotions, this hymnal is sure to uplift many lives.
A pocket on the inside back cover has been attached for placement of additional denominational materials that will soon be published by GIA. These include Roman Catholic, Episcopal, and mainline Protestant supplements for the celebration of Eucharist or Holy Communion.
