The cowbell, originally used to monitor the whereabouts of cattle, has found its way into many different musical styles and cultures. The cowbell is either hand-held or mounted; it is played primarily with a drumstick, and occasionally with an assortment of beaters, mallets, and sticks. The cowbell may be played with either hand.
To Play the Cowbell:

Hold the cowbell in the palm of the hand.
Strike the cowbell above its open end with a drum stick. Experiment to determine the best sound.
Note: For a lighter sound, strike the center of the cowbell with the butt end of a drum stick.
