Cynthia Crump Taggart is an Associate Professor of Music Education at Michigan State University School of Music where she also directs and teaches in the Early Childhood Music and Young Musicians Program of the MSU Community Music School. At Michigan State University she teaches early childhood music methods, elementary general music methods, research, and measurement and evaluation. She also directs graduate research at the masters and doctoral levels. Prior to coming to MSU she taught as Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Institute of Music. She holds a B.M. and M.M. from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. from Temple University.

Cynthia is known for being an outstanding educator. While at Michigan State University, she received the prestigious Teacher/ Scholar Award and was chosen as a CIC Academic Leadership Fellow. At Case Western Reserve University she received the Excellence in Teaching Award for the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Cynthia also brings substantial teaching experience to her work as she taught elementary general music and instrumental music in Kenosha, Wisconsin and Ann Arbor, Michigan.

As a co-author of "Music Play: The Early Childhood Music Curriculum" and "Jump Right In: the Music Curriculum" Cynthia has presented numerous workshops throughout North America on elementary general music and early childhood music education. She is also involved in research on how young children learn music, and incorporates the latest findings into her curricular materials and writings.
