Michael E. Martin teaches instrumental music (strings, winds, and percussion) at the elementary and middle school levels in the Haverford Township School District (Havertown, PA). His students have performed at Pennsylvania Music Educators Conference, MENC Eastern Division Conference, and the National Music Clinic. In 1992, Mr. Martin was awarded a Citation of Excellence from PMEA for his innovative teaching and curriculum. He has been a Visiting Lecturer in Music Education at Michigan State University, Rowan University, Temple University, The University of Texas at Arlington, Duquesne University, and University of South Carolina. He is a frequent presenter at state and national music educators conferences.
Mr. Martin is author of the Parents' Guide for Jump Right In: The Instrumental Series and is co-author of Jump Right In: The Instrumental Series for Strings (Revised Edition). He is past president of the Gordon Institute for Music Learning and has been a Certified Teacher Trainer for the Gordon Institute since 1993. He is also past president of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the National School Orchestra Association. Mr. Martin has performed professionally on string bass, bass guitar, tuba, and voice.
Mr. Martin holds a B.S. in Music Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and M.M. in Music Education from West Chester University. He holds further graduate credits from New England Conservatory, VanderCook College of Music, Temple University, and Drexel University.
Mr. Martin resides in historic Gulph Mills, Pennsylvania, with his wife Sandy, an early childhood music specialist. The Martins have one son, Rob, a freelance violinist in Philadelphia.
