Workshops
Woodwinds in the Liturgical Ensemble:
Support to the Assembly's Song
Explore with an experienced pastoral musician, flautist, ensemble director, and cantor the ways in which woodwinds can give support to the song of the assembly. Hear creative ideas on arranging, voicing, the selection of repertoire for solo use, and effective use of instruments in various ritual settings. (1-1 1/2 hours)
Longer presentations (3 hours) would provide the time to focus on technique and to have more hands-on experience. Participants would be encouraged to bring their instruments.
How to Plan Prayer
How can we make the most of the opportunities to pray with people at meetings and other gatherings? What part does "pastoral context" play in determining what the prayer will be? What are the resources available to help in the preparation of prayer? This workshop will offer models of prayer and how to adapt them and discuss the use of music in even the simplest of prayer moments.
Praying with the Sick and Homebound/
Praying with Those Who Mourn
This session is designed for ministers of care, bereavement ministers, and all who are interested in pastoral care to the sick, aged, homebound, dying, and those who care for them. Take time to reflect and share on how prayer texts, storytelling, Scripture, music, and song can be used to nurture, to heal, to revive the spirit. Develop a broader "repertoire" of prayer for these sensitive, moving, and powerful moments in pastoral care ministry.
This workshop can be adapted as needed to accommodate individual situations and time frames.
The Cantor in the Funeral Rites
Overview of the Order of Christian Funerals, focusing on the cantor's role in the vigil, rite of reception, and final commendation. This workshop will include practical suggestions for effective leadership and a demonstration of recommended repertoire.
Together with Robert Piercy, Denise is available for retreats and parish missions.
