L. Randolph (Randy) Babin is currently director of the St. Jude Thaddeus Chorale in Beaumont, Tx., a position that he has held since 1979. In 2005, he retired from the music faculty at Lamar University (Beaumont, Tx.) with thirty-nine years of service. At Lamar, he served as Director of Choral Activities (1981-2001) and chaired the Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance (2001-2005). In May, 1995, he was awarded the title, Regents’ Professor of Music, in recognition of his distinguished teaching.


Whereas Randy’s primary accomplishments have been in choral music, he has had considerable experience in the areas of opera, musical theater, and instrumental music. In addition to his compositional activities, he is an active clinician, frequently conducting workshops on choral techniques and conducting.


A native of Baton Rouge, La., Randy received the degrees Bachelor of Music Education (1965), Master of Music Education (1968), and Doctor of Philosophy (1987) from Louisiana State University.
