Workshops

Hymn Festivals or Concerts
A festival or concert can be modeled after the hymn festivals of Paul Manz or John Ferguson or the concerts of David Haas, which have become popular over the years. The festival has the assembly singing a variety of standard hymns and new music for the liturgy with organ, piano, guitar, or percussion. These festivals of song will strengthen and renew the voices of your parish to sing to God in their Sunday gatherings. The festival is best prepared by the parish in consultation with Rob. Parish choirs can also be involved with the festival presentation.

Leaders of the Assembly's Sung Prayer
Who leads the congregation? How can they sing stronger? The basics for good leadership for all music ministers are explored including tempo, phrasing, dynamics, and introductions. Various musical forms are demonstrated for cantor, presider, organist, pianist, and guitarist. Improvisation and variations on written accompaniments are also shown.

Cantors and the Word
How can our cantors be more than songleaders? Presented will be skills on how to recruit, train, and nurture cantors to sing the Word of God at liturgy. Repertoire and resources will be explored, as well as practical tips for preparing the ministry of cantor for any parish-large or small. Repertoire will also be presented.

The Wedding Liturgy:
The Singing Wedding Assembly-Fact or Fiction?

This practical workshop will get the people gathered for weddings to sing! The role of the cantor and organist/pianist are modeled as participants sing through hymns, psalms, acclamations, and new music for the marriage rite that will draw your assembly into full participation in the wedding liturgy. Wedding music sessions for the engaged are explained and new music for organ and instruments will also be included in this presentation.

Children at Worship
Develop ideas and methods for training and recruiting your children to lead the Sunday assembly as cantors, choir members, and organists. Attention is given to the child's singing voice-its range, care and suitability. Review the Directory of Masses for Children and rules for liturgy with children. This session is ideal for school and religious education teachers.
