Workshops
Piano Keyboard Sessions for Liturgical Musicians
This workshop is both practical and theological. Primarily geared
to the experienced pianist, this workshop applies the principles
offered in the documents Music in Catholic Worship and Liturgical
Music Today as a key to understanding the ministry of liturgical
musicians. This workshop includes demonstrations of both introductions
and interludes, several styles of hymn playing, principles in accompanying
ritual music, and presentations of known (and new) GIA resources
composed specifically for the liturgical pianist. This workshop
could be adapted as well for less experienced pianists, or for those
experienced organists who find themselves needing to play piano
accompaniments. The minimum length of this workshop should be at
least three hours.
Seasonal Music Repertoire for the Church Musician
-Choir Directors and Choir Members
This workshop offers practical and creative approaches, as well
as sound liturgical principles, to the understanding of appropriate
ritual and seasonal music options for choirs through the liturgical
year. Principles for appropriate placement of music, variety of
styles, and sight-reading of both recent and familiar GIA choral
music will be included. Minimum length: 3 hours
A Liturgist and Pastoral Musician Reflects upon the Church Year
This workshop will suggest specific ways that music, rituals, and
seasonal environment together focus the prayer of the assembly through
the liturgical year. Given the unique aspects of each of the cycles
(Ordinary Time; the Incarnational Cycle; the Paschal Cycle), this
workshop would be offered as a series in three parts, with each
part being at least one-half day period in length. New and recent
GIA publications will be featured in the reflection upon each cycle.
Music Ministry: We Need a Better Space!
For anyone facing the possibility of the building or renovation
of the worship space. Discuss the relationship between the placement
of the altar, assembly seating, and music ministry; accessibility
issues; natural and artificial lighting; floor covering choices
and their relationship to acoustics, etc. Be informed before any
decisions are made!
