Workshops

Let the Children Celebrate
A hands-on workshop exploring elements of liturgies with children in a parish religious education or school setting. Repertoire and ideas to get children singing and moving. A tour through the Directory of Masses with Children and its implications. Planning school-year Masses. Suggestions for effectively using the Lectionary for Masses with Children. Full-day workshop, suited to parish or school needs. Afternoon workshop possible, with more concentrated focus.

Folk Group or Ensemble: What's in a Name?
What separates those in a "folk group" from those in the "liturgical ensemble"? What common ground do they share? Examine differences in concept, approach to the liturgy, and repertoire. Draw on the liturgy documents and what it calls us to be. How do the songs we play, and the way we play them, limit or expand our ability to be true to that calling? This workshop can also incorporate hands-on sharing and critique with folk groups or ensembles. Full-day or half-day workshop.

Music as Ministry
What are the ingredients that can transform a parish music program? The same ones that transform a parish. Caring for one another. Reaching out to others. Building community. With Scripture and song as a guide, we'll discuss how a sense of ministry is fostered in the way we treat each other (and the way we treat singers in the "other" group), in our approach to the liturgy, and in our extension beyond the church doors. We'll also look at how ministry takes root within ourselves when we freely embrace our gift. Half-day or evening workshop.

Evening of Prayer
An evening of Scripture, song, and reflection with assembly participation. Can be suited to liturgical season or theme.
