Workshops
COPYRIGHT Questions and Concerns for the Pastoral Musician
Pastoral musicians have a responsibility to make themselves aware
of copyright concerns. This is an issue of justice, and, like so
many other things, copyrights have to be taken seriously and done
just right! This workshop will explore the legalities involved,
avenues to obtain permission, proper identification of copyrights,
and costs. Various publishers' policies will be discussed. Bring
your questions.
The World of Sacred Music Publishing
Publishing music for the people of God is, in many ways, both a
ministry and a business, a unique mix requiring unique people. This
workshop begins with a brief overview of the history of music publishing
for the Catholic church since the Second Vatican Council, up to
the present day. From there the ins and outs of publishing are discussed
and a "day in the life" of a publishing house is explored. Find
out how different publishers interact, what career possibilities
exist in the field, and how publishing decisions are made-from the
GIA perspective. Bring your questions!
